BEHAVIOR
Knowing when your chinchilla feels happy, comfortable, and secure is easy. its sense of well-being is contagious when it planys, runds in its wheel, takes dust baths, leaps, hops, grooms, naps, and snacks. All of these activities are signs of a happy, healthy chin.
Just like people, chinchillas have a variety of behaviors and act differently depending on their circumstances. There are some basic chinchilla behaviors to help you learn how to interpret your chin moods and attitudes:
Aggressive behavior:Females can be very aggressive, especially toward males. Fighting can also take place between noncompatible females and noncompatible males.
Play behavior:sometimes you will see your chin run through an entire repertoire of play behavior consisting of jumps, head shakinig and hopping, bucking, cavorting, body twisting, and running. This play behavior is known among scientists as FRISKY HOPS. Frisky hops is considered to be an evolutionary form of antipredator flight play, providing a way for kits to practice movements that would allow them to escape from predators when they are adults. play behavior is seen frequently among littermates.
Curiosity and interest:chinchillas are interested in and curious about everything! An inquistive chin will approach and investigate any new object you give it. of course, it will always be just cautious enough that it can take off at a run if it feels threatened.
Fear: A chinchilla responds to fear by flight. This means that it will bolt and run away as fast as it can. A frightened chinchilla may bite if it feels it is seriously threatened and there is no way to escape.
