Temprament

Although well known for their maild and friendly temperament, chinchillas will bite if scared or provoked in any way, and they have sharp teeth which can inflict quite a lot of harm. chinchillas may become a little aggressive id they are not held in the correct way, which should be firmly. 

Chinchillas may actually feel scared and shed their own fur if they are held incorrectly. This firm hold gives the animal a sense of security. Once they become accustomed to you they will enjoy being stroked and held just like any other pet, but do not be too disheartened if it takes some time for the chichilla to get used to you. 

Chinchillas are quiet and shy pets. They are nocturnal so are most active in the evening and at night. They are agile and love to jump and climb. They rarely bite but love to chew on inanimate objects. If they really like you they will nibble on your fingers, trim your nails and chew on your hair jewelry and anything else they can get to.
