Breeding
Bunny that are to be bred should be fed carefully to make sure that they are very healthy.
The optimal age to breed does is starting they are six months old and continuing.
The most common is the natural method:
- The doe is taken to the buck's cage. The buck should not be taken to the doe's cage.
- The buck may chase the doe around for awhile, mate with her -- usually within a couple of minutes -- and then fall off her.
- After the doe and buck have mated once or twice, the doe should be returned to her own cage.
- Some breeders will allow the buck and doe to breed once and then bring the doe back 8 to 12 hours later for a second breeding to increase the chance of pregnancy and a larger litter. About 85 percent of breedings will result in litters as long as the rabbits are healthy.
(NOTE: 4 lbs is the Ideal weight of doe for breed.)
Pseudopregnancy: false pregnancy, if a buck mates with her but does not pass sperm.
